The actress's career was off well by being praised for her performances as a lead in Iruvar (1997) and Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya (1997). Both of these films challenged the fundamental form that was prevalent in Bollywood movies at the time, which pushed Bachchan to the forefront of Bollywood's New Bollywood. Bachchan was crowned the queen of Bollywood because of her heartbreaking portrayal in Paro, who is an unfaithful love interest character in Devdas (2002) which is one of Bollywood's most popular movies. Devdas also happened to become the first Bollywood film that was screened at Cannes Film Festival. The following year she won great acclaim for her portrayal as Chokher Bali (2003) an intense drama inspired by Rabindranath Tagore's story. Bachchan was the very first Indian to serve on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival. Bachchan was in Bride and Prejudice, a ballet and musical version of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice by Gurinderchadha. Her star-power and elegance was brought to the very first English-language major film. The actress came back to Bollywood for the smash Dhoom: 2 (2006) prior to releasing Provoked: A True Story (2006) in English. Abhishek Bachchan is an Bollywood star and frequent co-star. The actor is also the father of Amitabh Bachchan.
